08.30.2002 -- Tatters

I know, I know, I'm obsessed with my cats. But Tatters has finally taken the big step -- she licked Lucifer's back for about 3 minutes the other day! She licked him as he hornked on me! I'm so proud of my crazy baby girl.

08.30.2002 -- Liberace

My parents are such lovable nutbags. They bought me a pretty little sand-stuffed lizard in Times Square and mailed him to me with a note saying This little guy, Liberace, was in Thailand and immigrated to New York. He was residing in Times Square when we found him. He has iridescent bronze scales and black bead eyes.

I have him sitting on my chest right now, resting between my breasts. And I'm remembering my boy, my wonderful Nicodemus. He was the most wonderful lizard! Truly he was. His wide mouth, gaping, as he frantically tried to get at the pink fuzzy toy through the glass... his satisfied :::crunch.crunch.crunch::: when he got crickets and Superworms... his stalk of glee when I gave him pinkies. :::blech::: That's when you know you're a mother -- when you are buying hairless baby mice to feed to your lizard.

He was such a funny boy, especially when he was young. When he was little, he would shed all of his body, in big pieces, over a period of days. I would come home from work and find him glaring at me through frothing white petals of shed skin. He looked like Daffy Duck in the cartoonist episode where he ended up with his head sticking through a giant daisy, and he would just look so affronted. His lizardly dignity had been assaulted, and it was quite plainly MY FAULT. So I would pick him up and settle him on my chest or knee and gently pick off the shed skin.

Oh, I miss my boy. But I do love to remember him.

08.21.2002 -- Gleep

My cats like to play mind games with their mother. Gleep has moved into the bedroom and is now there about 80% of the time. He cries at me each time I come in the room. And when I got home last night and went into the bedroom, he went into a frenzy of headbonking and purring. He's being very odd. He seems perfectly fine, but every few years he makes drastic changes in his behaviour, and I don't know what this one means.

Update: He's now dividing his time half and half, and I have visual confirmation that he's still eating.

08.16.2002 -- missing those that are gone

Something hit me on the way to work today. I never did get a little Santa Claus hat for Nicodemus. I always wanted to get him a Santa hat for Christmas and get someone to take a picture. And now it's too late.

08.15.2002 - Tatters

I brought home a fur mouse tonight and dangled it in front of Tatters. She was completely disinterested... until I dropped it on the floor. In a streaking flash she was on it -- batting, throwing, rubbing against her body, licking... my girl is really learning how to play.

06.03.2002 - Lyl on her cats

Well, Killer snorts at people and snores, Jamie is obsessed with plastic bags, and Kero is terrified of strangers and will live under the bed for days at a time if we have guests staying over.

july 2002 - Lyl on Tatters

He's [Baxter] a sweetie, for sure, and I think the kittens have been good for Tatters. She's surprisingly maternal for such a psychopath.

04.22.2002 - Harley on Mia Kitty

I didn't tell you what Mia Kitty did. You remember how I told you she had been remarkably unaffectionate for a couple of weeks? I found out why. She has been holding a grudge against me for WEEKS! Friday morning I had to open a new tin of soft food for her. It was a different flavor than she been having previously. Well she LOVED it. For the first time in weeks she finished her treat and leaped on to the bed and began purring madly. She was glued to me all weekend purring away. Can you believe my cat held a grudge for THREE WEEKS?

I was one of the first 50!
