Artemis

ARTEMIS was about 3 months old when she came to me
on October 16. She was either abandoned or mistreated,
and spent most of her first 5 or 6 weeks with me
hiding. She spent most of her time underneath my
bed, unless she was scared, in which case she hid...
somewhere else, I never found where. She would come
out in the evening for food, but I was not allowed
to stand up or walk about. Well, I could
stand up, if I wanted her to bolt for the bedroom as
if her tail was on fire. :)
Slowly, she began to lose some of her fear. She
would let me pick her up and put her on the couch,
and she'd stay for a while. Sometimes when I'd stand
up, she'd just run into the bedroom instead of
diving underneath the bed. And little by little, she
began to show up in my lap and let me pet her. She
has a rattling purr, and I began to hear it more and
more.
Now she likes to curl up in my lap at night. She is
loving, playful, and often
forgets that her tail is attached to her butt. She
often plays with
Max, and if you are interested in a matched set,
they really do go well together. She is still a little spooky, but she isn't afraid of my
cats, who tend to ignore her. But she will climb into my lap when Maggot is already there, and just kind of use her as a cusion. It's very cute. She tested negative
for feline leukemia and feline aids, her ears have
been treated for mites, and she has been wormed. If
you would like to come by and meet her, please email
me at
lynxfeather@yahoo.com to arrange a time.
Artemis is still very shy with strangers, and she is
slow to trust. It may take more than one meeting for
her to become comfortable. She is a very dear cat,
and she trusts me as much as she trusts anyone.
Because of that, if you take my girl into your home,
I must ask that you keep in touch with me so I know
that she's ok.
See more pictures of Artemis! Isn't she just beautiful?

10.18.2002 - a rescue story
One unremarkable Wednesday night, the Village Witches were
in the parking lot, celebrating the capture of Lyl's cat
Killer, who decided that it was a good night for chase the
black cat through the parking lot at night. In the midst
of our celebration, came a cry... from a tiny white cat with
a bushy black tail. She is obviously terrified half out of
her mind, and we have never seen her before. We stalked her
through the parking lot for the half-hour 4-witch tag-team
rescue the baby cat in distress event.
I finally managed to grab her by the hindquarters and haul
her out. She then became a blur of teeth and claws, so Harley
grabbed a random piece of her and we began the 2-woman
tandem sprint across the parking lot event. [This is more
excitement than we usually see in months.]
She was filthy -- the way only snowy-white cats can get
filthy. She reeked of motor oil. And she lay quietly in my
arms... and then she started to purr. I took her into the
bathroom to give her a bath, and discovered that she was so
terrified that I could not put her down. So I took a shower
with her cradled in my arm. :) After, I settled on the couch
with her in a towel under a blanket. Eventually, I put her
underneath my t-shirt and heaped a blanket on my chest.
I wanted to give her a name full of light, because she is so
afraid, and because she came after Shadow.
