Malachi

Pictures of Malachi!

My boy found a good home this past weekend. He went home with a gentleman named Wes [no, not my Wes, although that did contribute some email weirdness]. He and Wes took to one another very quickly, and by the time Wes left, Malachi was resting comfortably in his arms.

I'm thrilled that my boy found such a good daddy, although it still feels as if someone gouged my insides out with a fork.

I forgot to mention that Malachi thinks that my eyelashes are tiny little butterflies, which makes my eyeglasses a cage, I supposed. When I am trying to go to sleep, he gently bats at my eyelashes until I can convince him to leave the butterflies be.

I am so proud of my boy! He is just a fantastic little cat. He is very much his own person -- if you plop him on your chest, he may stay, he may go. He watches everything... he studies the other cats to learn how to be a cat. On Monday, he saw that the other cats lay in the sun behind the vertical blinds. The next day, I saw him walk up to the blinds and carefully edge his way past them. He wasn't close enough to the glass, so the blinds kept bonking him. He was very clearly thinking Ok, I know I'm supposed to like this, but I'm just not. These things won't stop touching me! The next day, I came home from work to find him happily sitting behind the blinds, just like he was supposed to. :)

He is very smart, he knows his name, and he loves to play. He also loves to be mellow -- he slept with me most of last night. He is constantly trying to engage the other cats, but they are much older (or crazy) and just not interested. So he plays with their tails when they are pissily swishing them about.

He is such a good boy. He is going to make someone a fantastic cat. And I am going to miss him so much.

Malachi got a clean bill of health. He is ~6 weeks old, and weighs 1 lb, 3 oz. Other than being underweight, he's just fine, and he ate 1/2 can of kitten food this morning.

Last night was the first time he was allowed to wander around freely. He popped up onto my lap as I lay on the couch, considered the situation, and clambered to the back of the couch where most of the cats hang out. He crept up to Gleep's butt, turned around, and very tentatively pressed his little butt up against Gleep and sat there, practically radiating the question is this ok? It was so sad. He obviously wants attention from a cat, and none of mine are stepping up to the plate. Poor little boy.

This past Saturday, I was suddenly responsible for another creature. The same bunch of rag-tag children who brought us Harley's Angels came by to visit Lyl's son Mouse. The littlest one was toting around a small, lethargic black kitten. Mouse told me that they had another kitten, and they weren't taking good care of it. He looked at me as if to say, So, what do we do? I had a moment of blind panic in which I looked right back at him as if to say, I don't know! What do we do?

That's when I realized that I was the Designated Adult on Call, and I talked to them until they handed him over. I took him inside, gave him a flea bath [with kitten-safe flea shampoo that Harley ordered online], and went to PetSmart where Lyl bought enough supplies to get him through until my paycheck on Thursday. I then wrung my hands and freaked out for a couple of hours.

I'm taking him to the vet this afternoon, and I'm hoping he doesn't have a respiratory infection. I'd love to let him out of the bathroom! He's a very sweet boy, he's eating well, using the litter box (!!!), and is perfectly happy to sleep on me for hours.

You can't see his coloring that well in the pictures, but he is a black cat with distinct tabby striping and a white undercoat. Meet my baby, Malachi. If you would like to meet him, please email me at lynxfeather@yahoo.com. He needs someone to give him a lot of time, love, and tenderness.

I was one of the first 50!
